Rachael McGarrie – I'm living my passion & purpose

At 16, I was the deer in headlights, walking out of the school gates in a surreal slow motion, surrounded by a thickening fog thinking, “What happens next!”. After studying Media Production at college and then taking a year out, I then signed up to University for a Business Management Degree so at least I was heading in some kind of direction. I then fell into a call centre, then into another sales role, working in companies where I just felt I didn’t belong. This then led me into the Personal Development world where I started to learn and grow in knowledge and understanding. I instantly felt 'at home’ here.

Why kindness matters to your well-being

Kindness is defined as a behaviour marked by ethical characteristics, a warm and pleasing disposition, and a genuine concern for others. It is often considered a virtue, however, it also has an unfair association with negativity and weakness. On the contrary, kindness requires a strength of character and a strong sense of oneself. Furthermore, practising kindness daily can have incredible benefits on your well-being and happiness. In fact, research by John Gottman found that kindness is one of the most important predictors of satisfaction and stability in a marriage. Moreover, kind people enjoy increased energy, happiness and serotonin levels, as well as lower levels of stress, anxiety and blood pressure, according to a survey conducted by Random Act of Kindness.

Why More Businesses Are Hiring a Coach – By Merete Langler

Coaching is often likened to the fitness world, and this is especially true at this time of year. As the end of January approaches ('Dry’ or otherwise), a number of Small Business owners and managers are once again realising that many of their New Year resolutions are unlikely to carry as far as February. Coaching Awakened My Passion and Purpose – By Sue Clarke

Going back to early 2015, as a consequence of reassessing life I decided to quit my full-time job, which I had been doing for almost 15 years. The main driver behind my decision was that I wanted to be around for my 92-year-old mum, who lived with us and also look after our granddaughter 2 days a week when her mum returned to work. So, April 2015 began a new season, as I reflect it was quite a challenge caring for a 92-year-old and a 9-month-old. One, increasing in independence and curiosity of the world around them and the other, with a degree of reluctance, was becoming more dependent.

Coaching Reignited My Passion – By Julia Williams

About 5 years ago, I was in a career rut and was questioning everything about what I was doing. I had been a Primary School teacher for nearly 20 years, had taken a break to raise my daughter and was really struggling to get back in to it because everything had moved on apace. But I didn’t think there was anything else I could do. Eventually I contacted a Life Coach, called David Jessop. I began working with him and, as well as coaching me to move forward, that led to him working with me in school with the children. He inspired me so much I decided I wanted to do what he did.

Your procrastination habits may seem to be very deep rooted and, indeed, they probably are. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be changed. Forget everything you have ever been told about laziness, tardiness, lack of application and short attention span; procrastination is about how we think. My story began on a train journey a few years ago. This evening was no different, a friend of mine was having a difficult time at work and was considering handing in his notice. We talked through all of the angles and I reassured him that whatever he decided, it would all work out in the end. I didn't even know exactly what a life coach was, but something told me that this conversation was meant to happen and I had to do something about it.

I made the decision at the start of 2016 that I wanted to change my career. Specifically, I realised that I no longer wanted to work for somebody else. Having left my previous job as Operations Director for a sports company, I started working for a friend’s company as a project manager on a freelance basis. I soon liked the freedom and creativity that came from my freelance work.

Personal Growth Through Coaching - Three Levels of Self-discovery by Ro Gorell

The topic of personal growth really resonates with me because as a coach I want to be congruent when coaching others, either individually or in groups. If I am asking my client to step outside their comfort zone, I too want to experience what that is like. The coaching relationship is co-created: your coaching identity grows as your client learns and grows.

Coach in the Spotlight - Rachael McNidder

Wednesday 12th January 2016 was a grey, cloudy, cold and damp day. As I entered the Copthorne Hotel in Birmingham, about to embark on The Coaching Academy’s free 2-Day Foundation in Life Coaching event, my heart was pounding with both nerves and excitement. As I approached the building, I reminded myself of all the good reasons why I came to be here, remembering the many times when I had considered becoming a coach, only to talk myself out of it.

Cultivating an Adventurous Spirit - Say Yes! By Bev James

Like every other animal on the planet, humans are creatures of habit. Habit creeps into every aspect of our lives, from eating the same meals every night and going to the same bars every weekend, to jetting off on the same types of holiday every year. We sometimes think we've got the monopoly on what pleases us, and so replicate those experiences again, and again, and again, until they become routine. Consequently, we feel safe and comfortable, and perhaps content, but not necessarily fulfilled.

Coach in the Spotlight - Shefali Bhutani

My journey into Coaching and raising the bar!

I have worked for a decade within the Corporate firms of the Financial, Management Consulting and Accounting verticals. I have enjoyed the sense of accomplishment that comes from solving problems.
