My Coaching Journey - By Sruti Kanabar

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: October 2017

My journey with The Coaching Academy started back in July 2015 when I came across an advert for TCA's free 2-day Coaching event on the Facebook app on my phone whilst being on my train back home.

I had been contemplating what I could do for many days knowing that my HR Administration role was going to end in 2 months’ time and I remember thinking for a few moments before I came across the advert that led me to my next career move. A career which would connect my purpose in life, to help others and connect to my key personal values of honesty, integrity, kindness and respect.

So, I followed my intuition and wrote a short paragraph on why I should attend and then awaited a confirmation for my place to be secured. It had been a very eventful train journey indeed!

I was so excited when I found out I was offered a place. And the 2 Days were amazing, fun and I found myself out of my comfort zone in a very positive way. I met a lot of lovely people from all walks of life and heard a lot of inspiring stories from the trainers who shared their journey to becoming a coach. I decided to put my name down to enroll for the Life Coaching Diploma and that was the best decision I have ever made.

The most rewarding part of the training has been attending the Accelerator Days. They have facilitated my learning every time I have attended, and brought my motivation to the next level, that has enabled me to carry on and take the necessary actions I have set for myself. I have managed to fit the coaching training around working a full-time job by organising and scheduling my time before and after my working day and personal commitments. It is surprising that so much you can do when you manage your time more effectively and I have been able to help my clients do the same. My coaching training would not have been possible to complete without the support and dedication of the members of The Coaching Academy, my immediate family, friends, fellow coaching colleagues and clients.

For me, coaching has changed my life by helping me set goals, which are in line with my purpose and personal values so when I do meet them I get a high sense of fulfillment. It has greatly impacted my clients positively as they are coached to believe in themselves and their expertise. This has led them to make positive changes in their lives, which is great to see as a coach.

Currently, I am working towards growing my company Purposefully Coaching alongside studying for the Small Business Coaching Diploma and intend to make use of my HR qualifications and experience in the past to diversify the work I do.

My top tips for aspiring and new coaches are:

• Believe in your potential and embrace the challenges during your coaching journey.

• Get the support you need from your family, friends, clients and members from The Coaching Academy - They are an integral part of the journey.

• Make the most of the resources you have on the TCA Members’ site and the array of coaching books that are available.

• Be kind to yourself - You are learning and will make mistakes and that is absolutely fine.

• Organise yourself so you are working effectively and efficiently towards completing your qualification.
