Tina Dulieu - Just follow your dream and do it!

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: July 2018

Our 'Clients' Success Story Series' this week continue with a quick Q&A session with TCA Small Business of The Year 2015, Tina Dulieu where she shares her successes making a great living as a professional coach.

Tina Dulieu is a passionate business coach running her own practice, Coaching Dynamics, and has been helping many people and businesses be successful in an abundance of ways for over 25 years.

We hope you enjoy…

What was your profession before becoming a coach?

Originally, I was a mathematics teacher. So, I taught mathematics for 12 years teaching GCSE and A-Level maths and after that I became a Kumon Instructor and through that I started my own business.

Why did you want to become a coach?

The reason I wanted to become a coach is because all throughout my career, I’d been helping people reach their potential. I did that when I was a mathematics teacher and then through my Kumon studies centre, which was a business that I ran. After 10 years I decided to sell the business and I came across The Coaching Academy 2-Day event. I went on the weekend and really, really enjoyed it. The course I was drawn to was Corporate and Executive Coaching as I could see how this aligned with the previous business I had run. I thought this was a really good way to put them together!

Most people become a coach to change the lives of others… How has coaching benefited your own life?

Coaching has benefitted my own life enormously. It’s given me a career, an income that was much greater than I’d ever hoped. The goals I’d set my self at the beginning I’ve achieved them over and over again.

It’s allowed me to help my children through college and university, it’s allowed us to have family holidays and most importantly and recently it allowed my husband to retire to pursue his own passion for golf and DIY. I’m not retiring though because I love what I do!

What is your coaching niche?

My niche is in business growth strategy. So, I work with companies looking at the whole business. It’s the growth but not just in one area, so, for example, it’s not just sales of the business but it’s to do with what I call the blend of business - how their business is made up, the financials, all of the people, the organizational structure, the systems, the processes and how they market their business. It’s holistic, so it’s everything to do with the business because if a business is growing well then, we need to have a strategy for every part of that business. And that’s the exciting bit because it opens the mind of the business owners to think differently, and the coaching I do with them helps them to think outside the box.

What was your experience being trained by The Coaching Academy?

My experience was an excellent one. I found that what they did was provide me with the skills and the information that I needed. All of the tools, great tutorship, support, everything I needed to set me off on my journey.

And also the continuous learning, so even thought I did the Corporate and Executive Diploma at the beginning I went on to do DISC personality profiling, so I did that over several years and this helped build up my skills, it helped open further doors for me and it gave me more potential to work with even larger clients and develop them even further.

What would you say to someone thinking of enrolling with The Coaching Academy?

Know that this is a profession, know that this is a career and that you can make a living out of it, if you do it in the right way. Once you’ve done all your training you need to have the courage to put yourself out there, to find clients, to test the things that you’ve learned, to evolve and grow but moreover to keep going and keep working with people.

I would say that I made back my investment within the first year, so I would say that for me it’s been a fantastic profession, it’s been a culmination of the journey that I’ve been on. The highlight for me is when I won The International Coaching Awards in 2015 in the Small Business Category because being recognised by your own profession is a wonderful accolade. And I would encourage anyone who’s thinking about it to follow their dream and do it!
