Student Stories - 06 Jul 2026
In this Student Story, Emma Lee shares how her coaching journey began, how training with The Coaching Academy fit around her life, and how she now supports women in midlife.
I’ve always had a deep love for building authentic connections, both in my personal life and throughout my career. I began my academic journey studying Psychology with the goal of becoming a Counsellor, but a pivotal year working in New York led me down a different path, opening new possibilities and perspectives.
Whilst juggling career, family, and responsibilities I realised I was doing everything for everyone and not leaving space for me. You could say I had lost myself and what made me tick. I decided to invest in myself and my personal development.
When I began my Life Coaching Diploma, everything fell into place - I realised that so much of what I’d naturally been doing throughout my life was rooted in coaching. It became clear: this was the path I was meant to follow.
One of the biggest gifts has been the incredible community I’ve gained - mentors, supervisors, and fellow coaches who continue to inspire and support me. I have made some wonderful connections with like-minded professionals who I am working in collaboration with.
Beyond that, my clients have impacted my journey. Witnessing their breakthroughs, seeing them reclaim their confidence - it fuels my passion and reinforces why I do this work.
I had been researching coaching courses for a while, but it was a conversation with a friend’s life coach that led me to The Coaching Academy. She had completed her diploma with The Coaching Academy and was kind enough to share her experience, giving me an honest insight into the training and what life looked like after qualifying.
At first, I was nervous about online learning as it was unfamiliar to me.
However, I quickly realised how well it suited my lifestyle. The flexibility allowed me to study at my own pace, fitting the training around my existing commitments. I appreciated being able to work through each module as I felt ready while still receiving support and guidance throughout the process.
The unexpected connections I made. I initially thought I would simply complete the course and move on, but instead, I gained a powerful network of like-minded individuals. The support and encouragement from fellow students, mentors, and supervisors made the experience even more enriching.
The mentorship was incredibly valuable. Having 1:1 support made a huge difference, and I underestimated how much I would benefit from it at the start.
I also found The Coaching Academy's ‘Business in a Box’ toolkit was extremely useful. It provided practical guidance on setting up my coaching business, which helped to turn my qualification into a career.
As a Mindset Coach, I support clients from self-doubt to clarity and confidence - without overwhelm! Through my REFRAME, RESET, RECLAIM programme, I help women become the main character of their story, strengthening their resilience, shifting their mindset, and navigating this midlife transition so they can thrive in their careers without sacrificing their well-being.
One of my favourite ‘very simple’ questions to ask clients is: “What insights have you had so far?” , as it encourages reflection and often leads to moments of unexpected clarity. Sometimes, we don’t realise just how much we’ve uncovered until we stop and pause to reflect.
Client feedback is essential for my continued growth as a coach. Comments I’ve received include:
Hearing how time with me has helped my clients gain clarity and confidence reaffirms why I coach.
I am particularly passionate about coaching women through perimenopause and menopause. This life stage brings so many changes and challenges – physically, mentally and emotionally and without the right support, it’s easy to lose confidence and direction which can lead to burnout. I want to help women prioritise themselves and their wellbeing so they can navigate this transition feeling empowered and in control.
I am expanding my work through workshops so I can reach and support even more women. I’m also passionate about speaking at events and on podcasts.
My Life Coaching Diploma was the best decision I ever made, and my journey doesn’t stop here. I’m committed to continuous learning and growth. I’m part of a supervision community, and this year I’m also studying for my NLP Practitioner qualification with The Coaching Academy.
I want women to realise that looking after yourself - especially during times of hormonal change - is not self-indulgent; it is essential.
Mindset is the foundation of lasting progress - you can have the best plans, goals, and tools, but without the right mindset, none of it truly takes hold.
