Values, Beliefs and the Stories That Shape Us

Our values influence what matters to us, the choices we make and what gives our lives meaning. Our beliefs shape what we believe to be true about ourselves, other people and what is possible for us. In this session Sharon & Pam will explore how skilled coaches can work at greater depth with Values & Beliefs, helping clients move beyond the presenting issue to uncover what may really be driving their patterns, decisions and behaviors.

Join your host Sharon Lawton for another thought-provoking Coaching Conversation, this time with Pam Lidford, Senior Coach Trainer at The Coaching Academy, Coach Supervisor and PCC ICF Assessor, exploring one of the most powerful areas of transformational coaching: values and beliefs.

Our values influence what matters to us, the choices we make and what gives our lives meaning. Our beliefs shape what we believe to be true about ourselves, other people and what is possible for us.

And yet, so much of this operates beneath the surface.

In this conversation, Sharon and Pam will explore how skilled coaches can work at greater depth with values and beliefs — helping clients move beyond the presenting issue to uncover what may really be driving their patterns, decisions and behaviours.

Together, they’ll explore questions such as:

  • How do we recognise when a value or belief is sitting underneath what a client brings to coaching?
  • What happens when the life a client is living is no longer aligned with what truly matters to them?
  • How can limiting or outdated beliefs quietly shape a client's choices and keep them stuck?
  • How do we challenge beliefs without imposing our own worldview?
  • And what does powerful, ethical values and beliefs work actually look like in the coaching room?

Drawing on Pam’s extensive experience as a coach and Senior Coach Trainer, this will be a practical, reflective conversation designed to help coaches become more curious about what sits beneath the words their clients bring into the room.

Because sometimes the most powerful coaching doesn't come from changing what a client is doing.

It comes from helping them discover what they believe — and whether that belief still deserves to shape who they become next.
