Its not a question of 'if' you should use social media in your business its more a case of why, how, when and to whom.

Its not a question of ‘if’ you should use social media in your business its more a case of why, how, when and to whom.

Coaches have never had it so good, I wish I had this amazing free resource literally at my finger tips when I started out as a coach.

Being able to engage and interact with potential clients and have the opportunity to add value to them before they even speak with you is invaluable.

I do hope you take the time to complete our social media survey as we are keen to help coaches become confident and competent and use social media to its maximum potential.

In the meantime here are my Do it! and Ditch it top ten tips.

1. Do! – Share, like, comment on other people’s posts. Remember its called ‘social’ media for a reason.

2. Do! Post content that educates, inspires and engages your audience.

3. Do! Take time to learn about it, if you avoiding using social media, is it because you don’t know where to start or what you should be doing. Any skill can be taught and social media is no different.

4. Do! Test your links, when you post a link make sure you take the time to test it as soon as you post it, its frustrating for people to click a broken link.

5. Do! Know your audience, find out what they want, what keeps them awake at night, what can you share that will add value to their life or business.

6. Ditch the temptation to post on an ad-hoc basis. Social media should be part of a consistent, overall strategy that has been well thought through and supports your marketing plan.

7. Ditch trying to do everything, there is so much choice. Its better to master two or three social media methods and do them right than try to be present on all of them and be seen by no-one.

8. Ditch over marketing. The majority of your content should be about adding value to your followers, linking to blogs, articles, tips etc. When this is done well and part of a strategy people will be happy to learn more about your products and services - do it gracefully.

9. Ditch being nameless, people want to connect with a real person not a logo. Take time to create your online identity and post content that is congruent and authentic.

10. Ditch the temptation to post on a whim if you are feeling cross or something has just irritated you. Ranting on social media might make you feel at the time good but does it fit your brand and reputation.
