Business coaching for sustainable success

In this week's blog, we’re catching up with Coaching Academy graduate Stefano Palumbo completed his second qualification with us, the Small Business Coaching diploma, last year and described it as "a turning point" for him. Stefano now works as a Business and Performance Coach who helps organisations build high-performance cultures and supports professionals in high-pressure roles to enhance their mental performance and achieve more with less.

Student Stories

From Passion to Performance

What drives someone to become a business coach? For me, it was never a single moment, but a series of patterns I couldn’t ignore. Throughout my early career, I found myself drawn to the stories behind success - the mindset, motivation, and resilience it takes to thrive, especially under pressure. I also noticed that many professionals, despite their external accomplishments, were struggling behind the scenes with stress, imbalance, and burnout. I wanted to help them do more than just survive - I wanted to help them perform at their best without sacrificing what matters most.

My background was in teaching and entrepreneurship, and I had grown several small businesses as a solopreneur, even publishing a book, and so I understood firsthand the toll that ambition can take if it’s not aligned with values, purpose, and wellbeing.

I discovered Business Coaching was the natural bridge for me - bringing together performance psychology, practical strategy, and human connection and support. It gave me a way to help people unlock deeper levels of success, fulfilment, and impact.

My Journey with The Coaching Academy

I discovered The Coaching Academy through a fellow coach whose progress I deeply admired.  They spoke highly of the structure, depth, and community that The Coaching Academy offered, and after some reflection, I realised it was the right next step in my professional development.  Completing the Small Business Diploma didn't feel like just another qualification - felt like a turning point.  The most rewarding part of my journey with The Coaching Academy was the community. Learning alongside other passionate, committed individuals created an environment where growth was constant. We shared our perspectives, supported each other through challenges, and brought the tools to life through real conversations and practice. That blend of theory and connection made the learning not only richer, but more powerful.  The resources that helped me most weren’t just found in workbooks or webinars - were found in people. Practicing the tools and techniques with my coaching peers, exchanging feedback, and seeing the immediate effect of powerful questions made the theory real. It was through those repeated conversations that I started to craft my own coaching voice.

My Work as a Business and Performance Coach

I started in the area I knew best; entrepreneurship and supporting solopreneurs - isolated creatives, looking to create the next level in their work and business.  Today, I combine my coaching skills with my passion for high-performance and professional development to support individuals in high-pressure careers.  I am currently working in-house at a legal education company so a large part of my work is focused on helping legal professionals perform at their best while maintaining perspective, building confidence, and cultivating their wellbeing.

In my private practice at Peak Perspective, I also work with professionals across different sectors, including executives and entrepreneurs, helping them develop clarity, resilience, and sustainable success.  My coaching style is shaped by both structure and insight.

One of my favourite business coaching tools is the simple but transformational question: “What are you avoiding - what’s the cost of that avoidance?”   - this often cuts straight to the real challenge, especially in high-stakes environments where leaders are under pressure to appear strong or have all the answers. It opens the door to truth, accountability, and action.

Clients often share that coaching has helped them see their business, and themselves, with fresh eyes. They’ve made quicker, more confident decisions, navigated complex transitions, improved relationships with colleagues and clients, and most importantly, rediscovered a sense of control and joy in their work. For some, it’s been about scaling a business without burnout. For others, it’s been about stepping into leadership with greater authenticity and presence.

One area I’m increasingly curious about is how to challenge people’s perspective and scale peak performance across teams and cultures - just individuals. It’s one thing to help one individual transform, and another to create a high-performance culture where values, wellbeing, and excellence go hand in hand. I’m exploring how coaching can shift not only outcomes but entire environments.

Looking Ahead…

In the future, I see my work expanding into elite performance coaching as I continue my education in Performance Psychology. I aspire to support professionals across industries, in business, sport, and other high-stakes fields at an organisational level and I would like to continue delivering 3-day immersive trainings overseas, both for leadership and department teams who recognise the value in developing their mental and professional performance.  Alongside immersive group programs, I would like to create and share more tools and resources that support clients at scale. My coaching philosophy is built on the idea that success isn’t about doing more - it’s about doing what matters most, at your best, and improving that gradually, day by day. That’s the shift I aim to help clients make.

Coaching has changed the way I live, not just how I work. It’s given me a framework for change, a lens for growth, and a mission that’s bigger than me. If I can help more professionals step into the version of themselves they know they’re capable of being, I’ll consider that success!

Thank you Stefano for sharing your high-impact and inspiring coaching journey with us!
