Duncan Gee

Duncan trained as a coach way back in 1995 when he was a serving Police officer, and used those skills within his department, noticing the change in people and the empowerment that coaching gave them. It really helped to change the department for the better. His top three values of caring, authenticity, and humour assisted the process.

He then got externally accredited as a coach with The Coaching Academy and after retiring from the Police service after 31 and a half years he started a number of businesses, one of which was coaching. Duncan now coaches within the corporate arena, and also works as a personal coach, particularly with young people, coaching within different schools and on a one- to-one basis. Following the development of the M.A.G.I.C. Programme Duncan has now helped deliver its teaching over a range of schools and organisations throughout the UK.

Merete Langler

Merete is a fully qualified Master Coach and NLP Practitioner with her own business. A former Deputy Head Teacher, Merete uses her coaching skills with a range of young people in transition. She also combines this with her passion for Small Business Coaching, working with the Apprenticeship scheme.

In both strands she finds that the challenges are similar- they just have different labels. Her work extends to coaching around public speaking and interview techniques; taking time out to make clear, informed decisions at key crossroads in life; making the most of networking opportunities and improving areas that cause dissatisfaction to the client. Clients have said they enjoy the way she challenges and moves them forward using a calm, gentle manner and sharing her sense of fun. In each case they have moved forward with clear focus and positive results.

David Jessop

In 2002 David left the corporate world to 'go it alone' as a self employed coach... To bridge the gap until his coaching business took off he trained as a masseur & on one occasion a stressed out deputy head came to him to 'de-stress' by receiving a relaxing massage... and so it began.

It just so happened that the cause of his stress was that an 'anger management' consultant had let him down at the last minute after the deputy head had arranged a course for a cohort of students, received parents, governors & staffs approval and was all set to go. This led to a conversation about David's coaching business which led to David solving his problem by becoming the coach assigned to his student cohort.

Fortunately the success of this created more work in the Headteacher's school as well as others and developed into David's coaching also being utilised by Colleges and Universities - David has now coached over 14,000 students and 1000s of staff via 1-1s, groups, teams, workshops, assemblies & seminars both in the United Kingdom and the United States, working with them to embed the principles of success which will not only enhance the quality of their journey through Education, but also the quality, richness & results they achieve in life.

David's Vision is to continue to grow Youth Coaching and his passion is to help and inspire other coaches to live their passions and purpose for the impact they wish to have in this area and so his goal is to 'get out there' more and share his experiences of how he did what he did in the hope that it raises peoples awareness to the massive & exciting opportunities that exist in Youth Coaching at numerous levels & the huge opportunities that are around to make the difference that makes a difference.

Thursday - Youth in Transition - with Merete Langler

This module will help you to enable young people to discover skills and techniques they need when they are in times of transition and faced with making sometimes difficult but important decisions. Young people face many such times of change and often feel ill-equipped to deal with them. What questions should I be asking myself? How will I know if I've made the right decision? Completing this day will furnish you with the skills to help young people at times when they need it most.

This will provide you with the techniques and skills you need to coach young people through the transition they face and to be able to make great decisions with confidence such as:

  • What subjects should I choose for GCSEs, A levels or university?
  • Do I leave school or stay on?
  • Do I go to university or college?
  • What shall I do when I get there?
  • How will I cope living away from home?
  • Should I take a Gap Year?
  • What job shall I look for?
  • What do I want in my relationships?

This module focuses on core issues such as identifying strengths and values, overcoming obstacles, decision-making, setting realistic goals, and boosting confidence.

When young people discover what they want in life and are able to set realistic and achievable goals, they will be more determined and focused, and take personal responsibility for themselves and their actions. Their motivation and confidence will soar. This not only applies when interacting with their peers but also when thinking about their education, relationships and planning their future career.

When you have completed this module, you will have the understanding and ability to coach young people through some of their greatest challenges and to be able to provide them with the life-long skills and techniques that they can use to identify, face and overcome any obstacles and to reach any realistic goal they set.

Imagine the difference it would make to young people if they looked forward to the decisions they have to make because they are confident that they have the strategies and skills they need.
