How to stop feeling overwhelmed - Jana Smandrova

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: November 2016

Have you ever had a vision for yourself perhaps it was about being more confident or courageous, or having a better lifestyle? Maybe it was a vision about finding the work you were born to do. And you found yourself feeling overwhelmed and almost frightened by this vision. Negative thoughts started to flood your mind. It's not for people like me. It's not for people who come from where I do. I'm not good at... How could I make it...? I have no idea, skills...? For whatever reasons, beliefs, convictions, limitations, negative words you abandoned your vision of better tomorrow's.

I'm not good at.... How could I make it...? I have no idea, skills….? For whatever reasons, beliefs, convictions, limitations, negative words you abandoned your vision of better tomorrow's.

I've been there. I've done the same. Five years ago the thought of me becoming a successful coach popped up in my mind. As soon as it did, I dismissed it. I could not see myself as a successful coach. I believed it was only for them people who are outgoing, lucky, bold, fierce, qualified, extremely confident ... Back then I did not see myself as having any of those qualities. Luckily good ideas return when you dismiss them at first. The idea of becoming a successful coach who helps and walks people through changes into better results popped up again.

And that time instead of looking the other way I thought to myself - what would I need to learn, develop and improve in order to become a coach? Where could I gain a qualification? How long would it take and how much money would I need? Where would I get clients from? What other coaches are out there? I began my research and journey with The Coaching Academy. Soon enough I realised by breaking my vision down it became less frightening and more available to me. I had my AHA moment!

Here are a few tips which may help you next time you get overwhelmed by your huge vision:

  • Write your vision down - in as many details as possible. Just imagine you are writing a story about your vision. Imagine you have already achieved it. What is happening? What are you feeling? Where are you? Who are you with etc. ..

  • What is the goal from your vision? How could you put it into one or two sentences? Write it down.

  • What is your big WHY behind this vision?

  • How is it going to affect your life? Your health, financial situation, social life, career… etc.)?

  • When do you want to achieve it by?

  • Now list all the things & tasks you need to get done to accomplish your vision. Warning! This is the longest but the most useful part.

  • Once you break your vision down it’ll become less frightening.

All you need to do now is start working on your list. Schedule each task into your calendar. Do your research as I did when I wanted to become a successful coach, I researched the coaching academy, found the programme I wanted and enrolled.

No matter what your vision is, you can achieve it. Don’t let it frighten you!
