Gina Morrell - Coaching and Holistic Healing

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: September 2020

This week's Coach in the Spotlight is Gina Morrell who followed her true passion after qualifying and decided to use her top three skills to help her clients in a unique, holistic way. Enjoy her inspiring story!

Gina Morrell started using coaching as a skill in her role as a Leadership and Management Trainer but decided to qualify after discovering The Coaching Academy.

During her studies, like many coaches, Gina kept looking out for the unique calling of her niche. In the end, she found her true purpose in helping people in a unique way, by combining coaching with holistic massage and Pranic Healing.

Today, Gina is a holistic therapist, working with her clients as a whole – mind, body and spirit. She helps her clients look at their life and blends her treatments to best suit their needs. Read her inspiring interview below.

What brought you to coaching?

I was using coaching within my role as a Leadership and Management trainer to help people explore their thoughts and feelings and find the answers from within themselves, but there was no real structure or direction to our chats.

So when I found out about the Introduction to Life Coaching with the Coaching Academy I couldn’t wait to attend, meet other coaches and learn lots of tools and techniques. It was a fantastic weekend and I knew that I had to pursue this and become a qualified coach.

Most people become a coach to change the lives of others… How has coaching benefited your own life?

Whilst studying with TCA we were encouraged to start practising straight away, so I jumped right in and put out an advert for practice clients on the community page. As scary as it was to do that, I learnt so much from these sessions.

I was also a ‘client’ for practising coaches, so the learning doubled by listening to their great questions, and how they carried out sessions. It also meant that I was constantly setting goals, and being accountable for achieving them.

How did the qualification slot in with your busy life?

I’ll be honest, it was tough and took a lot of organising and time-management. This is where my coaches helped to keep me moving forward and motivated.

What was the most rewarding part of your Coaching journey?

The rewarding times were when a client made a breakthrough by that one question that I asked, meaning that realising their goal was getting closer and closer.

I loved hearing and seeing their reaction when they told me what they had overcome and achieved.

How did you choose your coaching niche?

I remember hearing so many times that my niche will find me, so I waited… what did find me wasn’t exactly my niche, it was where coaching fitted in with my bigger life purpose, I guess.

I’ve always wanted to help, support and guide people, so my 3 biggest skills and passions that have naturally been coming together are holistic massage, Pranic Healing and coaching.

Tell us about the work you do! How are you using your coaching skills?

I am now a holistic therapist, treating people as a whole; their mind, body and spirit. Hippocrates said that it was ‘insufficient to focus on one aspect of a person’ and that the body must be treated as a whole rather than a series of parts, and that’s what I do!

With my clients, we look at their whole life situation and blend a package of treatments that best suit their needs. Although the holistic massages have been put on pause temporarily due to lockdown, nothing has stopped the coaching and Pranic Healing treatments going ahead.

The beauty of both being that they both work across distance so can be carried out wherever you are, with great results.

What would you say to someone thinking of enrolling with The Coaching Academy?

Don’t think twice, just do it! Yes, it’s a lot of work, but you will learn so much about yourself and gain fantastic skills and tools to help other people achieve the things that they want.

What are your top tips for those currently in training with TCA?

Keep your reflections, paperwork, diary, and Personal Learning Journal up to date, and try to set aside time to watch the webinars-I learnt so much from the wonderful resources on the online learning platform!

Spend 10 minutes after every coaching session reflecting and writing down what went well, what you learnt and what you’ll put in place the next time.

Look at the 10 Final Questions early into your journey; they don’t have to be answered in the final stages of your studying.

And finally, don’t try and read every book on the suggested reading list, just get practising. As soon as you dare. No, even before you dare!
