Coach In The Spotlight - Nkem Mpamah

Posted 2900 Days Ago in: Coach Spotlight, Coaching Articles

I'm a life-long student of personal development and have read great books on how to create high performance accomplishments. When I found the opportunity to attend The Coaching Academy's 2 day event in London, I seized it without question. What's really fascinating to me is recognising and tapping into the enormous power which every human has, focus.

What brought you to coaching?

I’ve always had the instinct for doing things differently, kind of thinking outside the box really, and helping people. My whole life revolved around supporting people becoming better at what they do. It was just in my nature to give invaluable advice and people were quick to confide in me at work and outside the office environment. So I wanted to explore a profession that would give me the opportunity to practice just that. That was how I discovered coaching.

What were your original thoughts for applying the coaching?

I’m a life-long student of personal development and have read great books on how to create high performance accomplishments. So when I found the opportunity to attend The Coaching Academy’s 2 day event in London, I seized it without questioning.

What was your profession before becoming a coach?

I am a Chartered Accountant with many years of experience. Prior to becoming a coach, I worked in banking for more than 18 years during which I led teams of financial control and strategic planning staff. In 2008 when the economy turned bitter, I became available to the market. That gave me the opportunity to realign with my passions.

What did you find most interesting to learn?

All the great tools! Asking invaluable questions and listening to hear how clients discover themselves makes me feel glad to have discovered coaching.

What was the most rewarding part of the training/journey?

Discovering new talents and learning new skills.

How did the qualification slot in with your current life?

As a Chartered Accountant, I thought nothing could be more challenging than passing the examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, so I approached it from that perspective.

What else did you have to consider whilst qualifying?

Well, the thought of how to make a living with what I found myself doing couldn’t stop flagging up. I don’t know about you, but many times people get frozen about the uncertainties regarding where they’re going. But I overcame the fright eventually by applying relevant coaching tools.

Where are you now? How are you using your coaching skills?

I’m founder and CEO of Cognition Global Concepts and author of “The ART of Achievement and Fulfillment.” At Cognition Global Concepts, we work with leaders of organisations and business owners who are intensely ambitious to grow their busineses, double productivity and increase profit margins within 12 months or less.

I’m passionate about transformation, inspiration, and growth. What’s really fascinating to me is recognising and tapping into the enormous power, which every human has - focus. If you’re good at something today, it’s got your focus. This realization led me to write my book and be able to share what I consider the fundamental principles for turning dreams into a reality.

What is your coaching niche and why did you choose it?

My coaching niche is business and executive leadership. My passion is in helping leaders to run their organisations more successfully by applying simple and uncomplicated business principles.

What is the best thing that could happen to your coaching business in the next 2 years?

Establishing a CEO Forum, where chief executives and business leaders from different organisations will come together to brainstorm, innovate and stretch their capacities to create a consistent high performance culture for their organisations.

What is your favourite coaching question?

What else?

What do you enjoy most about being a coach?

The aha moments; when clients enter into new levels of awareness where transformation occurs.

What are your top tips for:

  • People who are looking at coaching?

If you’re considering becoming a coach, by all means attend The Coaching Academy’s free 2 day event.

  • Those coaches currently in training?

There used to be this fear about coaching someone you perceive more experienced, more educated, and more everything! Many times, it’s just what we think. Believe in you and keep pushing, you’ll be fine.

  • Coaches that are about to qualify?

Don't let anything stop you. Sometimes it’s difficult to decide on a suitable niche but don't worry. Follow your instinct and have fun with your passion; you’ll eventually discover it. And don't be afraid of asking for help when the need arises for you.

  • People that are in a similar situation to yourself?

Be the Change Agent you’re called to be. Always seek ways to deliver quality results, and if you’re not developing yourself regularly, the competition might overtake you.
