Become a Coaching Academy Licenced Trainer

When you become a Coaching Academy Licenced Trainer you will be licenced to train a specific one-day workshop course called “The Seven Steps to Understanding Coaching”. This workshop is designed as a taster session for your own potential clients, enabling you to introduce the concepts of coaching and the benefits of hiring a coach to your prospective clients.

In becoming a Licenced Trainer you are taking a huge step towards building a sustainable and profitable business. The Coaching Academy’s Managing Director Lesley Matile will teach you two versions of the workshop so that you can adapt the workshop for either corporate or individual clients. In addition we will train you in a marketing strategy that you can use to fill your workshop time after time.

“The Seven Steps to Understanding Coaching” is the perfect introduction to coaching for new clients. Not only can you profitably run the workshop itself but you will have introduced yourself to dozens of potential new clients for your own coaching services every time you lead the workshop day!

You will never be competing with The Coaching Academy! Remember we train coaches – we don’t coach ourselves. As a Licenced Trainer the workshop you will be teaching is not in competition with us as it is intended to help you introduce your own coaching services to potential clients.

An exciting interactive workshop – ‘The Seven Steps to Understanding Coaching’

We have created and fully road-tested the content for a one-day workshop called ‘The Seven Steps to Understanding Coaching’ which we will teach you to present so that you can add this workshop to the list of services you can offer corporate clients.

You can also run this workshop as an open event, as a way of attracting potential clients for your personal coaching business. Here’s what Fiona Challis reported after running her first workshop:

"I can honestly say that running the workshops is such a fantastic experience and well worth doing as I have already had clients book me for one to one sessions.

I had 21 people attending and every one of them came up to me during or after the day to say how fantastic coaching is! I added a couple of extra games to day but apart from that I followed Lesley's advice to a T. The magic Clipboard is a great idea, I have 12 appointments this week to hopefully book private sessions, my first one I called this morning and she booked me for 6 sessions. The feedback forms worked a treat, what a great way to get testimonials for your website! Most people recommended 3 people that would be interested in attending my next workshop in September and 3 people actually booked me for 6 sessions each on the day.

Becoming a Licensed trainer is the best money I have ever spent and it is such a fantastic way to showcase yourself in front of potential clients. "

You will be taught a marketing system that will attract clients into this workshop, based on the system that The Coaching Academy has successfully used for the last eight years, there will also be a new focus on web orientated business development and targeted delegate acquisition.

This workshop is designed to help you build your own coaching business by introducing potential clients.

As a client of The Coaching Academy, you know that we are extremely good at what we do and you know that we have a business model that works. This is your opportunity to use our blueprint for marketing and running workshops to create your own workshop business.

If you feel that you can get others excited about the potential of coaching to achieve fantastic results on either a personal or corporate level, working under our banner has to be the fastest route to success - we will help you by giving you a ready designed workshop and all the marketing material you need to make it successful.

In other words, this is an opportunity for a limited number of people to run their own coaching workshops and work alongside The Coaching Academy Head Office to develop a new business or income stream from running the workshops – either in-house within organisations or open programmes for the public.

Here’s how you can use a workshop to attract new clients to your coaching practice:

  • Run the workshop in the way we describe – at the end of the Licensee training, you will be confident that you can run a first class Introduction to Coaching workshop.
  • Fill the workshop with potential clients – and we’ll show you how.
  • Watch the people in the room become captivated by the power of coaching and line up afterwards asking you to be their personal coach or coach their team and/or individuals within their company.

Imagine the impact on your coaching business when you can show 30 people in a day exactly what coaching is – and they pay you to be there!

Don’t worry if you don’t feel 100% confident at this point we can show you the shortcuts to being a confident coach and presenter and we have a wonderful way of doing a coaching demonstration which means you NEVER fail – you will always have a first class demonstration EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK.

We will show you how to run a great coaching workshop which will have clients lining up to talk to you AND we will show you how to fill your workshop seats with eager, potential clients.

And we will help you further by building a great six-page website for you and giving you 1,000 personalised colour flyers to get you started immediately.

We want you to be hugely successful, so we will send, as part of the License fee, a senior member of staff to attend your first workshop. They will help you out if necessary and provide moral support during the day. At the end, privately, they will give you honest and supportive feedback to help you be even better the second time. (This applies to UK licensees only.)

Here’s what you can expect as a Coaching Academy Licensed Trainer.

You can:

  • Benefit from The Coaching Academy brand name and experience. We’ll teach you what we’ve learned over the last eight years and you’ll be associating with the best-known name in British coaching.
  • Model our existing, successful trainers. They’ve been there and done it – now you can find out what they do when they have a delegate who asks lots of questions, when people won’t stop talking and when they feel under pressure… and lots more!
  • Have a ready-made training programme, (where the entire contents have already been tried and tested) which receives extremely high delegate satisfaction, shows the potential of coaching clearly and precisely and has just the right balance of theory and practise. The content of this special one-day course has already been road tested for you to 1,000 people. All the bugs have been ironed out, all the laughter and applause points have been set… all you need to do is copy the presentation!
  • You will have two slightly different versions of the workshop built around the same core exercises. The first will be to attract clients for personal coaching and the second to attract corporate clients. The corporate version will include the business case for coaching in corporations and we will show you how to vary the presentation to make it relevant for businesses that want to develop the performance of individuals or teams and have a dramatic impact on the bottom line.
  • Access our marketing and advertising experience. We will have an expert in the field of marketing who will teach you how to attract an audience based on his wealth of experience, more on guest speakers for the June event later.
  • You will have a new six page website created for you, by us, to help you promote your new service. We’ll even link our site to it so that you can benefit from the 6,000 visitors we have every week. The content of the website is entirely up to you - you can even have video on it if you wish! Just select one of our previously tried and tested site templates, we’ll populate it with your information and away you go!
  • You can earn a good income from running workshops in addition to what you already do. There are many people who make their entire living from running workshops and you may end up doing the same. However, if you use it as a way of attracting potential clients and then as a vehicle to show what coaching is and how you work, you will generate all the clients you could possibly need and want. You are likely to have some clients you can’t accommodate… pass them on to colleagues who don’t run workshops and generate a passive income from the introduction fee!

As a Coaching Academy Licensed Trainer, you can work from home or expand into offices, you can be the sole employee or you can have staff, you can stay small or grow with demand. This is an income opportunity that is completely flexible – you can turn the tap on and off, as and when you want to attract new clients.

The amount you charge for the workshop is up to you, but £99 is about right because you want to attract the maximum number of delegates at a price where you can still make a profit. For in-house company training, you might charge £1,500 for the day.

The course you will be licensed to deliver is the one-day ‘The Seven Steps to Understanding Coaching’. On the separate colour leaflet shown below, you will see contents of the day. You will have 1,000 leaflets like this printed for you to promote your first workshop. We’ll tell you how best to distribute them.

Licenced Trainer Leaflet Design

We trialled this workshop at nationwide locations between October and December 2006. All of The Coaching Academy key trainers delivered the course – Lesley Matile, Sarah Urquhart, Pam Lidford, Bev James, Ann Skidmore and Damian Culhane. Each trainer added to and refined the course over an intensive three-month period.

The workshop was run 24 times and was considered by many of the existing coaches who attended to be ‘one of the best courses The Coaching Academy has ever run’. The workshop received praise for being informative about best coaching practice as well as being entertaining, interactive and enjoyable – all the hallmarks of a Coaching Academy course.

The Coaching Academy used the course to introduce people to coaching and the last session was designed to introduce the delegates to The Coaching Academy Diploma Courses. You, of course, won’t present that last session. Instead, you will use the last session as an introduction to your personal coaching services and how you work with individuals and/or organisations. We will help you to create this final important session so you maximise the take-up rate.

You will be running these workshops to attract clients for your own business, either corporate or personal.

The workshop content has been fully road tested and put together as a training course that ensures excellent delegate satisfaction and ticks all the boxes of delivering outstanding training. The PowerPoint slides went through numerous revisions, as did the handouts in order to be able to exceed delegate expectations – which they did.

This workshop will work just as well as a workshop you might run for a company for staff. The outcomes for the staff are increased motivation and a set of goals that will increase their focus and improve work/life balance. It’s a whole new way to develop and deliver Personal Development Plans!

If you already have a training company, this would be an excellent addition to your portfolio.

There are no geographical restrictions, so you are not limited to presenting the course in your area. This means that wherever you live there are no limits to the potential of running the workshop. If you move house, the license moves with you.

Your investment is excellent value. The opportunity to run a ready-made workshop like this doesn’t happen every day and the demand is right for you to take the skills you have already learnt and impart them to other people.

So what are the benefits and advantages of running a workshop?

  1. There is a demand for workshops on coaching – The Coaching Academy’s success is testimony to this. There is a huge interest in coaching and most people and organisations want to know more about the benefits of coaching before committing to hiring a coach, which is why a workshop is a very easy, low-cost way for people to find out what you do.
  2. If you already run training sessions and workshops, then this will maximise your opportunities by combining your knowledge of coaching with your training skills; you will have a new product with which to approach your existing clients and a new product to add to your portfolio.
  3. You can multiply the speed with which you grow your business. It might take you a month to talk to 30 people individually about coaching but you can address 30 people at a time with a workshop. We will show you how to best position yourself so that you have a queue of potential clients waiting for you at the end of the workshop.
  4. Workshops make financial sense: if you charge approximately £100 a head, with 30 delegates the fees amount to £3,000. We will show you how to run your event so that the majority of that £3,000 is yours to keep – and that’s before you have picked up any private or corporate clients.
  5. Becoming a presenter of workshops positions you above people who don’t offer workshops - look at it from the client’s point of view: would you prefer to check out a coach by attending an inexpensive workshop first, or would you rather jump straight into a contract with them? Most would prefer to experience what you do prior to making a commitment. The coach offering workshops has a major advantage over the one who doesn’t.
  6. There are two big financial benefits to running workshops: you receive the income from the workshop delegates and you receive the income from the people who become clients, either personal or corporate.

An idea of some of the things we will cover

Although we will be squeezing in as much information as possible. The precise agenda will remain fluid so that we can cover areas that you – as a new Licensee – want to cover.

Day One:

Lesley Matile – Managing Director of The Coaching Academy

  • Lesley MatileSections one to four of the workshop programme – we will teach you the exercises, give you the key learning outcomes, show you what works well, the pitfalls to avoid and how to have great impact all the time.
  • How to conduct all the sessions with maximum impact – trainers need to model coaching all the time. We will show you what modelling coaching looks like so you can replicate that on your workshops.
  • How to use handouts and PowerPoint effectively – there is no death by PowerPoint here! We show you how to make the slides work for you, rather than you becoming a slave to them!
  • Starting the workshop with the right atmosphere – adults need a safe, supportive and stimulating environment in which they can relax and learn. The first few moments are crucial to set the scene and get people excited about the day ahead.
  • Getting your point across to the audience – great trainers need to know the key point that they want to make and be able to say it so it resonates with everyone. We will teach you how to have the desired impact.
  • Commanding attention from a noisy audience – coaching audiences often become excited and enthusiastic as they see the fantastic benefits of coaching. Trainers need to encourage that enthusiasm and keep control of the workshop. We show you how.
  • Using your time effectively so you don’t end up rushing – timings are crucial. We will give you the timings and show you tips to catch up, slow down and juggle time. You won’t get caught out.
  • Training skills which make you look and sound professional every time – we have a few great tips to share with you to give you the edge.

Ed Peppit –Balloon View Publishing

Ed PeppitEd Peppitt has worked in the publishing industry for nearly twenty years, having been Publishing Director at Letts (books to get kids through GCSEs and A Levels) for much of the 1990s.

His own publishing company, Balloon View publishes personal development books, audio CDs and home study courses for many authors including Jack Black, the UK's leading personal development authority and founder of MindStore.

Ed is shortly to launch The School of Personal & Professional Development, which will bring motivational and business speakers from all over the world to London.

Session Outline
Coaches and trainers tend to fear that they can only keep income flowing when they are delivering, either face to face or on a stage.

In this session, Ed will illustrate everything you need to turn your coaching, training or consulting expertise into profitable books, reports, CDs, DVDs and multimedia home study courses.

He will provide practical solutions based on the questions that he is routinely asked.

  • Get published or self-publish? - The merits of each; the pitfalls to avoid; the exact steps to take; the costs involved.
  • E-books, newsletters and reports - The software you need; making your electronic product stand out; the costs
  • Creating highly profitable products at minimum cost - everything you need to know to get started
  • Multimedia - how to create CDs and DVDs on a tight budget; how to create a home study course
  • Putting it all together - how to present and package your material to maximise the margin and keep your clients wanting more

Day Two:

Full day with Guy Levine
International Entrepreneur and Business Speaker

Guy Levine PhotoGuy is a 28 year old entrepreneur who has a radically different approach to life. Starting his first business at 16 years old, and deciding not to go to university, he knew he had to educate himself. Believing traditional education was old fashioned, he developed his own strategies around thinking and taking action. He wanted something new, but most importantly, effective. Guy has been voted Speaker of the Year by the Academy for Chief Executives, and Runner Up Best Upcoming Speaker of the Year by Vistage (formally TEC).

Here are some of the topics Guy will cover during the day:

  • Where to find your ideal clients for the workshops.
  • Three critical things to research.
  • Obtaining information about your audience.
  • A menu of promotional options.
  • Getting other people to market your workshop – for free.
  • Timing your marketing efforts for maximum response.
  • The hot buttons that make people sign up.
  • How to target your marketing to get a good response.
  • Customising your message for different audiences.
  • What to include in your registration fee.
  • Important numbers to know and watch.
  • Calculating break even.
  • Marketing on a tight budget.
  • What makes an ideal client?
  • How to sell this workshop for £1,500 a day to companies.
  • How to use the leaflets we give you for maximum effect.
  • How to get a good ranking in the search engines with the website we build for you.
  • How to take registrations for the workshop – why email will halve your administration time.
  • How to manage the event – just turning up without preparation will not work – here’s what you need to know in advance.
  • How to use the event to maximise sign-ups to one-on-one coaching with you (or corporate contracts if that’s your market). This is the main purpose of the workshop – signing up new clients.
  • Turning your workshop into a CD or DVD product. You can earn an income while you sleep by creating CDs and DVDs of your workshop.
  • Choosing the best day of the week – one day of the week is the worst day, one is the best day.
  • Picking hotels and staffing – which hotels work best – or can you use an alternative to a hotel conference room?
  • Handouts and manuals – making them user-friendly and a take-away marketing tool.
  • Comment sheets – how to get great testimonials which will increase the sign-ups to your next workshop.
  • Using your website for registrations – the right way and the wrong way of doing this.
  • Using testimonials to establish credibility and make your job a lot easier.

Guy will also do a focus session on “The internet – Generating Leads, eCommerce, Search Engine Mastery, Social Media, Web 2.0” and also “Motivation – What they don’t teach you at high school!” These will be tailored to the audience and absolutely ideal for modern coaching businesses.

We are incredibly excited at the prospect of having Guy for the whole day on the second day as this will bring so much to the weekend. The commercial landscape moves rapidly and so have the techniques required to utilize this huge opportunity. Guy will bring us right up to date.

Day three:

Lesley Matile

  • Sections five to seven of the workshop programme – including keeping the energy up just after lunch.
  • Your questions and Lesley’s answers – we have built up experience of so many situations over the last few years. We want to share as much as possible with you. We will answer any question until you are satisfied.
  • The musts and must nots of running this workshop – Tap into our specific experience of these exercises and format.
  • How to conduct the practical sessions – adults learn at different paces, need different types of explanations and different amounts of time to complete the activities. We show you how to manage those complexities.
  • How to get the delegates back into the room on time – managing time is a key skill and sets great trainers apart.
  • Lunch or no lunch? What are the pros and cons of providing refreshments? We share our learning. You will be surprised about how important some of the ‘incidentals’ are!
  • How to time refreshment breaks effectively – how do you know when is a good time to take a break? What will you do during the breaks? We have learnt a great deal over the last eight years, which we will share with you.
  • Responding to questions and challenges.
  • Using stories and examples.

Your Questions Answered…

  1. I run training courses already – will this stop me doing what I already do?
No – in fact it will only enhance what you already do. Your current client base might be perfect to offer this workshop to. If you approach the people you already do business with, you will probably find your first clients there.
  2. Is there a market for this workshop?
More and more companies and individuals are hiring coaches – but usually only someone with whom they have had personal experience (which is why advertising in Yellow Pages doesn’t really work). A workshop like this allows people to establish that personal relationship with you before making the hiring decision.
  3. Does this course work in-house, within companies?
Absolutely, it demonstrates the potential of coaching to managers, to help employees to do their job effectively – goal-setting, asking the right questions, understanding what holds people back etc.
  4. How do I find the people to come on the course?
Several ways; from your own network of contacts, the internet (a professionally designed website is part of the package), maybe a little advertising. We will help you start up by giving you a tutorial day with Guy Levine – Day Two of the three-day induction course. A whole marketing system will be revealed to you.
  5. What happens if one of my workshop delegates subsequently wants to join a Coaching Academy Diploma course?
When that happens, we will pay you a commission of 10% of the course fee they pay us.
  6. How much support will you be giving me?
We will give you everything you need to know to get started plus we will teach you everything you need to know. We can help you with your marketing by making suggestions based upon our experience and keep an eye on what you are doing so that you head in the right direction. We will not run your business for you – that isn’t the point, but we will help you as much as we can. A senior member of The Coaching Academy staff will attend your first workshop – at our expense – to help you, provide moral support and give your private feedback to help you be more successful. This letter describes the many ways we will support you to be successful.
  7. Is there a selection process for Licensees?
Yes – first you need to complete the application form below. You will then have a telephone interview with our course advisor Victoria Kirchhoff. She will then discuss your application with either Lesley Matile or myself. You will have a decision within 48 hours of the interview. We only want the highest quality Licensees – people who are serious about making this work.
  8. Do I need to be a qualified coach?
When you attend the induction training, you should be actively working towards your qualification if you are not already qualified.
  9. So… how much is a License?
Probably not as much as you might think! This is a growing market and the price represents the value a workshop like this can bring to your coaching business, naturally, this opportunity will only appeal to ambitious coaches who want to earn a substantial income by adding an additional income stream to their business. When we know that you are seriously interested we will discuss the fees with you so we can judge whether this is right for you financially and also work out a way that is easiest for you to invest in your future.

Now you know what the Licensee course is all about you just need to make the decision if it is for you, if it is, please complete the form below and upload your CV.

Becoming a Licensed Trainer with this workshop will be a passport to high fees and more clients than you probably ever thought imaginable! We will work alongside you to help you to be as successful as you want to be!
